What will you see
On this private tour our guide will pick you up in the lobby of your hotel in Prague and together you will drive to the Moravian region where chateaus Lednice and Valtice are located. It takes approximately 3 hours to get to the Lednice chateau from Prague. In Lednice our private guide will buy you tickets to the chateau and you will go on a tour of the interiors with a local guide. Unfortunately outside guides cannot guide inside the chateau. Then you can tour the beautiful gardens surrounding the Lednice chateau. Afterwards you will drive to Valtice where there will be time for lunch. The lunch is not included in the price. Further on you can go on a tour of the interiors of the Valtice chateau with a local guide.
Originally on the spot of Lednice Chateau lied a stronghold from the 13th century. The stronghold was defending an important crossing of the river Dyje. In 1322 the stronghold was purchased by Jan of Liechtenstein. The Liechtenstein family owned the area until 1945. At the end of the 16th century the gothic stronghold underwent a transformation into a chateau, a more comfortable place for living. In the 17th century Karel Eusebius of Liechtenstein continued the transformation and spent his whole life improving the chateau and surrounding area. Part of the area is a french park with a greenhouse and various types of trees. Throughout the park you can admire different romantic structures, such as a moorish minaret. There are also several ponds and many bridges.
In the second part of this private tour we will take you to Valtice Chateau. Valtice was originally a gothic castle from the 13th century. The castle was rebuilt into a renaissance and later a baroque chateau. Richly decorated chateau interiors were improved with new pieces until the 18th century.
Both chateaus were owned by the Liechtenstein family. It was their seat until 1945 when the Liechtenstein property was confiscated by Czechoslovakian state in the repercussions against the German population. The area has been part of UNESCO world heritage since 1996. The Lednice Valtice region is also famous for its wine so we recommend you taste some on this private tour.
